POSITION SUMMARY: MEDICAL SCIENCE DIRECTOR
The Medical Science Director (MSD) will serve as the Content Lead in the planning and
execution of Medscape Medical Affairs programs. Blending an eye for details with a broader
vision for results-driven education, the MSD will provide hands-on medical writing and overall
content leadership for all designated projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MEDICAL WRITING
• Develop live/digital/hybrid medical content for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other
healthcare providers that is to the highest-quality and designed to close specified
healthcare gaps
• Develop PowerPoint presentations for multimedia programs
• Develop copy for text-based programs and other deliverables
• Perform fact-checking as needed of your own and internal team members’ content
• Incorporate revisions based on input from cross-functional internal and external teams
• Write assessment/survey/polling questions aligned with project goals
• Complete projects within established budgets and timelines
CONTENT LEADERSHIP
• Serve as a clinical consultant to internal teams and clients to design and execute
programs that are clinically appropriate, instructionally-sound, and adherent to industry
regulations
• Effectively engage with clients to identify program goals and establish measurable
indicators for success; ensure that program materials are aligned with program goals
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of important clinical issues within the therapeutic areas of
interest; remain current with relevant literature; clinical practice guidelines; approved
therapeutic drugs, regimens, and devices; and therapeutic pipelines
• Quickly acquire up-to-date knowledge in new oncology- and hematology-related diseases,
as needed
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with key opinion leaders and experts in
the specified therapeutic area
• Recruit and engage with qualified faculty for assigned projects to deliver current, accurate,
and compelling content
• Analyze program data/outcomes to develop compelling insights and presentations
TEAM COLLABORATION
• Collaborate with immediate and cross-functional project team members to deliver Medical
Affairs programs of the highest standards
• Partner with Design Team members in the development project-related visual identity and
graphics for projects as well as graphics for
• Engage with Sales and Strategy colleagues to provide recommendations for future
programs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in developing digital, live, in-person, and hybrid medical
education programs
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as a medical writer/content developer at a medical
education/communications agency or at a pharmaceutical company
o Preference given to individuals with prior Medical Affairs experience
• Deep expertise in solid and/or liquid tumors and biomarkers
• Highly proficient in written English and verbal communication skills; additional languages
a plus
• Highly proficient with Microsoft Office suite - particularly PowerPoint - with excellent
editorial skills (writing and editing)
• An advanced degree in a medical or science-related specialty (MD, PharmD, RN, NP,
PA, PhD) is preferred; a Bachelor of Science degree (life sciences, public health, or
clinical sciences) with several years’ relevant work experience required
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
• Excellent computer skills that include working remotely on shared networks and cloud-
based systems (e.g., SharePoint, Google Drive, Workfront, and others)
• Proficiency with web-based data and document sharing sites and authoring tools (Box,
Read Cube, EndNote, Tableau) a plus
• Comfortable in a highly deadline-driven environment; able to pivot quickly between tasks
and adapt to rapidly shifting priorities
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently
• Possessing strong problem-solving and time-management skills; capable of addressing
unforeseen issues to ensure that project goals and timelines are consistently met
• High degree of professionalism and comfortable building collaborative work relationships
with both internal and external stake holders
• Willingness to travel; estimated up to 25% (during peak times) for program delivery and
training opportunities
Annual Salary of $125,000 plus bonus.
