Vogue is looking for an experienced Senior Visual Director to lead cross-platform photo production and visual research, with an emphasis on print features. This is a hands-on role responsible for producing innovative, multi-channel, multi-market work that meets brand integrity and production quality standards, while remaining on schedule and on budget. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader and manager with an enviable book of contacts for agencies, photographers, stylists, and studios; impeccable editorial judgment and taste; a highly focused work style to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines at once. Reporting to the Global Creative Director, this role serves as a leader for their team across markets, guiding them to deliver results while nurturing their creative sensibilities and craft.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with editors in order to understand visual/photo needs and orchestrate projects accordingly.

  • Leverage deep relationships with agencies and photographers, and proactively source and review new portfolios to unearth emerging talent.

  • Pitch and deliver on cross-platform ideas that uphold and advance the visual identity of the brand.

  • Manage direct reports in multiple markets on photo research, image selection, credits, and CMS upload/publication

  • Oversee (or directly own) cross-platform photo shoot production, ensuring the creative concept is upheld from brief to final delivery, including:

    • Curate photographer lists and create visual mood boards

    • Commission teams and liaise with agents, photographers, studios, stylists, hair/makeup, etc. throughout the project

    • Create and maintain timelines, schedules, budgets, shot-lists, call-sheets, and other production documents - proactively share and communicate this information to all key stakeholders throughout the project

    • Attend and manage on-set production, as needed and as agreed with the Global Creative Director

    • Partner with video colleagues to ensure appropriate synergy across photo and video production

    • Coordinate the post-production process for lo-res and hi-res photo selection and final delivery

  • Contribute to tracking and maintaining the overall photo budget, including setting and assigning individual project budgets to team members, ensuring efficient use of all budget resources, and communicating effectively to the Global Creative Director and Operations/Finance partners on all active projects.

  • Manage the team to ensure contracts, photo fees, and usage rights are in place for all images (produced and researched), including the marked copy process for accounting.

  • Manage the team to ensure all invoices are tracked and processed in a timely manner and that jobs are wrapped accurately and efficiently.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain clear processes and communication channels for the team, helping people do their jobs more easily and ensuring work is happening in sync.

  • Delegate and manage all work across the team - provide clear direction, constructive feedback, and serve as a resource for team members to help resolve challenges and improve outputs.

  • Nurture talent and foster a transparent, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.

  • Contribute effectively to all HR/People processes such as performance management, compensation reviews, recruitment, etc.

Requirements:

  • 8-10+ years work experience in the visual production industry with an enviable book of contacts for agencies, photographers, stylists, studios, etc.

  • At least 2 years experience directly managing people

  • Excellent editorial judgment with demonstrated experience managing teams to develop visual stories across platforms, using detailed understanding of platform requirements.

  • A highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to manage multiple people, projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

  • A meticulous eye for detail and impeccable organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to navigate multiple stakeholders' inputs, opinions, and decision-making styles.

  • Experience building relationships and managing teams remotely and across cultures and timezones.

  • A work-style that balances entrepreneurial spirit with operational rigor.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, diplomacy, and tact.

  • Experience in and passion for fashion, culture, and lifestyle photography and illustration.

  • Ability to travel on occasion for assignments and shoots, as requested by the Global Creative Director.
