The Legal Aid Society has an opening for an Executive Assistant to work with the Chief Attorney, Civil Practice. By providing administrative support to the Chief Attorney, Civil Practice, the Executive Assistant will contribute to the efforts of the Civil Practice. The Civil Practice works with low-income New Yorkers experiencing a broad range of civil legal issues that, without assistance, can escalate into situations with cascading effects that threaten their stability and keep families locked in cycles of poverty. Our specialized units cover the full spectrum of civil legal needs, including housing and homelessness; homeowner stabilization, family law and domestic violence; immigration; special education; health; community development; consumer issues; employment; government benefits and disability; taxes; and holistic services for vulnerable populations including the elderly, adults and children with disabilities, and people living with HIV/AIDS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide confidential administrative support to the Chief Attorney, Civil Practice and Civil Senior Leadership Staff
  • Serve as a liaison on behalf of the Chief Attorney, Civil Practice to external stakeholders including judges,government agencies, elected officials, community partners, and clients and to Society staff
  • Schedule appointments and activities with other departments to facilitate Civil operations
  • Support the coordination of talent acquisition efforts for the Civil Practice
  • Draft and edit correspondence, communications, speeches, and other documents
  • Receive and review correspondence and direct to the appropriate departments
  • Handle highly confidential and valuable information and materials
  • Collect and prepare information and presentations for the Chief Attorney, Civil Practice for use in discussions and meetings with Senior Staff members and external stakeholders
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the AIC

Manhattan - Civil Practice Lower Manhattan Neighborhood Office
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies and problem situations is essential
  • NYS Notary Public or willing to become one

SALARY TRANSPARENCY

The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

Salary Range/Salary: $64,628
