Job Description

Manages, plans, organizes, and evaluates the physician assistants for multiple major services. Acts as a liaison with related departments. Promotes service excellence, participates in unit strategic planning, and remains current with related academic, hospital, system, state, and national clinical issues.

Job Responsibility

  • Collaborates with leadership to develop, interpret, communicate, and implement departmental, hospital, and system policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Participates in the development of staffing models and budgets.
  • Reviews, monitors, and evaluates financial resources effectively.
  • Oversees staffing to ensure maximum efficiency and quality of care.
  • Ensures staff is current with credentialing and all mandatory requirements, and informs staff of any new pertinent issues.
  • Builds and maintains productive intra-departmental work relationships to optimize operations.
  • Reviews and evaluates trends in clinical activities and technological advances; collaborates with leadership to plan future service needs based on results.
  • Collaborates with chief residents to coordinate the provision of quality patient care.
  • Functions as a resource to physician assistants by way of personal instruction, mentorship, in-services, and lectures.

Job Qualification

  • Master's Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program and National Board Certification in specialty area required.
  • Current License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State,
  • and Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • OR Master of Science required.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education, required. Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.
  • OR Master's Degree in clinical nursing practice. Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. CNS certification in applicable specialty practice areas: Adult Health, Oncology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry/Mental Health by a national certification organization (ANCC, AACN or ONCC), required.
  • 6-8 years of technical experience and 2-5 years of leadership / management experience, required.
