In Bridgewater, we serve large, global clients in telecom and datacom industries in providing next generation optical modules to support the growing need for data and communications. We are developing optical connectivity solutions, optoelectronic solutions, Wavelength Selective Solutions, OptoHD assembly and fiber optic assemblies and arrays.

The Optical Engineer position is intended for an individual who is interested in supporting and leading programs devoted to the design, development, and manufacture of free-space optical systems.

This person will have strong experimentation skills in optics and will work with leading-edge technology from design concept to prototype device. As an Optical Engineer, the responsibilities will include the design and implementation of spectral analysis techniques; this expertise will lead to the advancement of our products and services in the fields of optical communication.

What you will do in your role

  • Design and develop free-space optical systems to meet Tier 1 customer needs in wavelength management.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of optical system requirements and specifications to ensure optical performance and reliability.
  • Experimentally characterize optical components and prototype initial designs (from paper design into realized benchtop systems).
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary design team to integrate optical systems with other hardware, as well as electrical and mechanical components.
  • Utilize simulation tools and modeling techniques to characterize the performance of free-space optical systems, and ultimately optimize them for cost and manufacturability.
  • Develop new tools and techniques as needed to continuously improve our ability to model and understand key phenomena related to optical effects that govern device design.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, Photonics or related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience with Optical Design, spectrometer design.
  • Experience with optical metrology.
  • Experience with ray-based imaging.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • PhD in Physics, Applied Materials, Optics/Photonics or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in optical design/characterization.
  • Experience with optical system design for manufacturing, design and cost.
